Lonsai Maïkov is the musical vehicle for French artist Thierry Jolif-Maikov, along with contributions from Mathieu Broquerie and several other collaborators over the years. Lonsai Maïkov have existed since 1992 and have consistently released dreary dark folk records, typically falling in the murky margins of the neofolk scene, with occasional experimental sides such as their collaboration with Bleiburg. Underneath the the atmosphere of mystery in the music, Thierry Jolif has expressed a deep connection with the Traditionalist school of philosophy and is most inspired by Eastern Orthodox Christianity. This shadowy musical persona mixed with an genuine spiritual voice inspired that we approach Lonsai Maïkov for a new album, and although we anticipated it's arrival with a open minds and excited hearts, nothing could have prepared us for the music we were about to hear. "Décembre au Mont des Oliviers" is an exceptional journey through the fearless imagination of a musical mind who is deeply in love with his muse. With augmented forces and an incredible musical confidence not heard before in the Lonsai Maïkov discography, Lonsai Maïkov produce a triumphantly exquisite progressive folk rock album. Utilizing a vast array of textures, instruments, voices, languages, timbres, time signatures, deeply psychedelic arrangements and regularly shifting moods, Lonsai Maïkov really set out to blow their listeners mind, instilling a rousing new faith within their old fans and sure to win over a large number of new coverts.

Excellent medieval folk, IGR, & those with ears to hear. I love the sense of mysticism and deep, introspective ponder this album conveys, & the honest down-to-earth folky lyrics. Simply wonderful yet soulfully rich. Highlights for me are tracks 2, 5, 6, & 12. IGR truly capture what I feel is an authentic sense of a medieval bard at a woodland rill pondering the mysteries of life. Highly recommended. 8.5+/10. Alrihkh
