This is our first of, what will hopefully be, many releases from a true original. This eclectic musical journeyman has been weaving in and out of the underground for nearly 20 years. His roots are hidden somewhere within the shadowy intersection of electro and post-industrial musics in the early 00s. Many first heard his sounds from the epic Le Syndicat Electronique, which circled a black hole of underground wave and electro music released mainly on his own label, the influential Invasion Planète Recordings. In trying to appreciate the scope of his prolific discography, the works from the late 90s and early 00s may seem like just a seed of what would be. From an enchanting twelfth century square tower, overlooking a tiny village in the south of France, the man called Alaxis Andreas G. (aka A//) has created an entire universe of intricate musical constellations which orbit each around their own unique boutique (to the point of nearly being fantasy) record labels. His body of work is nothing if not personal yet the more you try to grasp at the heart of his music, Alaxis reveals another obfuscation, another layer of singular beauty and wonder to distract you from learning too much. Every release sells out so fast that it is very difficult to have a grip on what anything sounds like, and his work also seems to be absent from any real media coverage or file sharing, further frustrating most attempts to actually hear his work. Some of our favorite projects currently going from Alaxis include the otherworldly marches and dances of Precurseor Grand Bois (with a discography collection coming soon on CD, from Brave Mysteries), a gorgeous ceremonial folk duo with his brother called Iosophis, his continued exploration of cerebral electro under the name /I\, the folkish psych masterpiece of Aici E Ara !, and this, his heroic Shiny Black Mater. Shiny Black Mater somehow invokes all of the different faces of his music life and mixes them together into one. Chamber music, field recordings, abstract psychedelia, outer space, sacred processions, shamanism, balladry, confusion, cold synths, warm hearths, chants, dance, trance, and endless surprise all swirl together and whirl past like drunken wildfire.
