Bishop Wāitiks (Czech Vojtěch, later known as St. Adalbert of Prague) reached the shore of Prussia (Western Baltic lands) in the year 997, as a missionary. He illegally crossed a forbidden territory of a sacred forest and ignored Prussian laws and the request to leave Prussia. As a symbol of all that is Evil he was sacrificially put to death on 23rd April 997 by a Prussian priest Sicco.

The story about St. Adalbert was most probably influenced by our local Western Baltic (Prussian and Curonian) mythological tales about the Sea Serpent who annually had to be sacrificed. As a result of this ritual act the world could be revived and the spring vegetation would begin again after the winter’s ghost time of fruitlessness. On meeting Adalbert, the Prussians identified him as a representative of the chthonic world - bringing a curse and barrenness to Baltic lands. The plot of St. Adalbert's story without doubt originates from the cyclic myth when the spring Thunderer Pergrubris kills the winter Serpent.

On 23rd April 1997 (during the 1000 year Anniversary of the sacrificing of St. Adalbert's ) the Romowe Rikoito's event dedicated to St. Adalbert's sacrification was held. At this event he was symbolically sacrificed again, thus subsequently the spring of Baltic Prussian revival began. The recording of that rite of 23rd April 1997 was taken as background audio for the present track.

Wāitiks Adalberts ast Gallaswīrds,
Jūrjas angins, wīdras wins.

Wāitiks Adalberts ast prēisiks tāls.
